My research on my lighthouse...
My topic for the nautical project is lighthouses. Lighthouses are all around the U.S. they are used so the boats and ships can see the mainland and not crash into another boat or ship. Some lighthouses are for us to tour in and some are actually for boats. In ancient times people actually lighted giant fires for ship’s to see were land was and were giant rocks were. Some people think lighthouses are useless but just think if you were a captain would you like to know where this stuff was so you don’t crash… exactly.
Lighthouses are very important if we didn’t have them there would be so many boat crashes a year that we wouldn’t be able to have boats go out into the ocean because they would come back in a million pieces. Lighthouses are built on Harbors, Islands, Beaches and land by the shore.
If lighthouses disappeared there would be so many crashes and we wouldn’t have the money to build more and more boats so we can get across the oceans, gulfs, or bays. The first lighthouse in the United States was built on Little Brewster Island at the Boston Harbor in 1716. The British people blew it up in 1776. The replacement tower still functions as a navigation aid. Known as Boston Harbor Light, it is the only U.S. lighthouse that is still standing that was built in 1776.
Well the whole point of this is to show how lighthouses are so important and if they disappeared what would happen. Tons of people have died from ship wrecks, either into other ships, ice burgs, or even rocks and land.
